What happened to 2023?

That was fast!
Well, it seems like 2022 was just yesterday, and in a few days it will be 2024. Maybe it went by so fast because I’ve spent the past 5 months on a single painting. I had this foolish idea of using a 30x40 canvas. Go big, or go home, right? 👊 I don’t think it would have been that bad, but I realized that I was covering up layers of work with other layers. Not necessarily by mistake, but because that’s what needed to be done for aesthetic purposes. I’d spend several weeks on a layer, and the next several weeks covering up 50% of it. Anyway, it’s done now. Just in time for the holidays. I’m going to take a much needed break for a couple of weeks and let my eyes readjust.
That foolishly large painting is still in the process of drying, so I don’t have any pictures to share. I will share a photo below that I took this summer. I have about 100+ more that I need to drop into Photoshop and start editing, and maybe early 2024 will give me that chance.
Other than a week in Sedona, and a few days here and there, I didn’t take much time off from working on the large painting. I took a mini break in November to do a small 5x7 watercolor while some layers were drying on the oil painting. Initially, I wasn’t happy with it, because the colors weren’t bright enough. To make those lackluster colors pop, I decided to attach it to a wooden panel and put a few coats of resin on it. The colors really stand out now. I haven’t had a chance to put the watercolor on my website yet, but I will soon.
last but not least
I guess that’s all for now. I really wanted to share my latest painting with everyone, but I’ll send out another email in a couple of weeks after everything is dry, it’s mounted in its frame, and on my website. BTW, the frame arrived this week and it’s absolutely beautiful. 🤗 More importantly though, I wanted to wish everyone happy holidays. I hope your 2023 went well, and I hope 2024 brings even more cheer.
Keep calm and merry on…
…and, how about a Christmas song? 🎅🏼
