Every Dream Is Real - Original Oil Painting
Canvas size 16x20 (overall framed size is approximately 24x28)
They’ve waited a lifetime,
Albeit, the years few
This hour sublime,
It’s which they pursue
The stage being set,
Their little palms sweaty
Refusing to forget,
That they’re more than ready
The curtain yet wide,
They start taking their places
Full of tiny pride,
And painted up faces
Dancing young hearts out,
It’s why they are here
In their mind, no doubt
They’ll hear a great cheer
Ballet is their prayer,
In all of its splendor
Their family all there,
Front row, and center
I’ve always admired the work of Edgar Degas, and his ballet paintings. I wanted to test the waters with my impasto style that I’ve grown to love, and paint this group of young ballerinas.
I used a palette knife for most of the painting, and added just a slight bit of detail with a brush. That fine detail would not have been possible with the palette knife, but was needed to get the look that I was after.
To add a little extra to the painting, I meticulously placed bits of diamond dust into parts of the dresses. It’s not visible in the photos, but does show briefly in the video when the light hits it just right. It’s more visible in real life, but is very difficult to catch through the lens of a camera because of the indirect lighting that I need to use to capture the entire painting. I used some diamond dust in a couple of my earlier paintings and decided this was a perfect opportunity to use it once again.
The painting is mounted in a silver/champagne, wooden ornate frame. The frame can sometimes take on a more golden color in warmer light. I was initially going to use a lesser ornate frame, but after comparing it with this one, there was no question of which one looked best. I love the way the entire piece turned out.
