Painting #1 of a five piece Sedona rock formation series

Snoopy Rock! This is #1 of a five piece series that I’m doing of famous Sedona rock formations. Initially, it can be hard to spot with it being nestled amongst the beautiful Sedona landscape, but once you see it you’ll know right away. It’s like a giant Snoopy laying on top of his doghouse.

I really liked the style that I started using in Across The Lake In Fall, so I incorporated it into this piece. I actually used some Arizona red dirt in this piece while painting the rock formations to make it more authentic. The paint is applied to the canvas with thousands of individual ‘dabs’ with a palette knife. This impasto-style process is extremely time consuming but definitely produces a one of a kind painting. The layers give it a depth that is almost impossible to achieve using any other painting style. It is mounted inside a beautiful wooden frame that really compliments the entire painting.
