Starting To Wonder - Original Oil Painting
Canvas size 30x40 (overall framed size is approximately 38x48)
Beneath the skies whisper
Belongs this innocent girl
Lost in a sea of lavender
She plucks at purple pearls
In a symphony of color
Amidst its majestic hue
Where nature’s canvas glistens
Her angelic soul does too
Tranquil fields of fragrance
Where her secrets often hide
Gentle blooms embrace her
Tiny fingers the only guide
The bouquet that she gathers
She holds closely to her heart
Slowly it grows larger
A testament of nature’s art
She knows nothing lasts forever
Little hands hold the flowers tight
Her mind can’t help but wonder
Is this what heaven’s like
A young girl in the midst of a field of lavender, with a handful to take back home.
This painting was truly a test of my patience, because of the detail & sheer size. It took several months to complete. Some of the most time consuming aspects were applying a needed layer, only to cover 50% of it with another layer. This wasn’t done by accident, but what the painting required to make things look as they should. Most of the painting was done with a palette knife, but there was a bit of brushwork between layers, and in some shading. With my painting style, it’s not possible to merge layers. The thick textures prevent any type of blending, so the layers are almost like laying a block on top of another block. With each painting that I complete, I continue to learn different ways to ‘blend’ those blocks, and I’ve also started finding newer ways to hide light on top of the final layer(s). The painting took approximately 2 pounds of paint— by far the most paint I’ve used yet in a single painting.
This painting is very large. When seen in person, you can see every stroke of the palette knife, every single color, and the finest of details. I’d highly recommend watching the video on this page to get more of an idea of how the painting looks— I’ve tried my best to capture each aspect.
The painting is mounted in a beautiful brown and gold, ornate wooden frame.
