You Brought Out The Best In Me - Original Oil Painting

Canvas size 16x12 (overall framed size is approximately 21x17)

I’ll never forget that first kiss
I was lost, but I didn’t know it
I was terrified, but I couldn’t show it
But that kiss…
It was the best thing that happened to me

On the days when I was down
You did your best to understand
You would step in to hold my hand
When I needed love…
It could be found between you and me

Those days when I was at my best
You were there, and let me shine
You stood by, to let that time be mine
During these times…
I knew it just wasn’t about me

It was then that I realized
You knew me more than I knew myself
You loved me more than I loved myself
I knew then…
You saw the things in me that I couldn’t see

I want you to know…
You brought out the best in me

I wanted to test a process that I had been working on with blending the individual daubs of paint. It’s a meticulous process, and I wanted to try a fade from the left side of the canvas to the right side, with the right side being a darker shade of pink.

I used several different processes in painting this piece. A mixture of some pointillism (with the daubs), and then some more palette knife work on the flowers like I’ve done previously. I finally finished it off with a small brush to add in some extra detail. I decided to go with the white wooden frame with a golden accent which I think matches the painting perfectly. I’m very happy with the way it turned out, especially with the uncertainty of where I was going to go with it when I first started.
