Believe You Can Shine - Original Oil Painting
Canvas board size 14x11 (overall framed size is approximately 19x16)
Tulips in the garden
The moon in the sky
A lighthouse in the distance
The fireworks in July
A candle in the darkness
The dewdrops from a pine
A firefly in the evening
So effortless they shine
You get lost in the minutia
As if life’s grand design
Searching for happiness
In countless hours you consign
Desperate for happiness
And some peace of mind
Don’t dwell on your missteps
Just believe you can shine
Hocus Pocus? Yeah, yellow tulips with red-striped petals are actually called Hocus Pocus tulips. The tulip that I painted has bloomed until it can’t bloom anymore. The anthers and stigma are just barely visible because the large petals are stealing the show.
I used several different palette knives on this painting. I wanted to test something a little different for the background, and also chose a sharper palette knife for the vase to give it the transparent, glassy look. I used my favorite palette knife for the tulip itself, and really built up the petals with lots of paint so that it has lots of texture and a somewhat three dimensional look.
The painting was done on a canvas board, and is mounted in a silver upcycled wooden frame that has a beautiful distressed look that matches the painting perfectly.
