It’s What I Live For - Original Oil Painting
Canvas size 24x24 (overall framed size is approximately 34x34)
I want to forget those days
But I can’t— My mind it replays
Each decision— The thoughts of mistakes
And how it all makes my heart ache—
Trying desperately to forget a past
Of sadness— I reach out to grasp
Happiness— Only to find myself clutching
The wind and there’s nothing—
And yet now when I dream
Of happiness it seems
Bewildered— It never existed before—
Not until I forced open a door
Revealing a passion—
Revealing satisfaction—
That I knew my soul needed
For peace— It was then I proceeded
To let go— To forget all I was taught
Along with the sorrow it brought—
The worries are worries no more—
This new life— It’s what I live for
The lake is now calm, as the sun takes a break after a long days work, and the prismatic clouds are now stealing the show.
I used a brush and palette knife to complete this particular painting. The brush was used for the sky, and the distant row of trees. Most everything else you see here is done with a palette knife, in the same impasto style I typically use. I’ve thickened parts of the painting to give it the three dimensional look I’m always after, and toned down some of the palette knife work so that it didn’t overwhelm the piece. I wanted the lake to take on a soft glow without being too much of distraction with overly thickened paint. Most of the heavier layers are what you see in the foreground.
The painting was done on a stretched canvas, and is mounted in a brown wooden frame with a linen liner and espresso colored insert. Note, this is a larger painting, so it can be used to fill an entire wall, or it would also be perfect over top of a mantel.
